Something that I really feel has been lacking on WP7 is a solid platformer. People have been trying to bring NES emulators to Windows Phone so that we can all play Mario, but I would much rather have similar gameplay natively built for Windows Phone, and Spy Bot Chronicles does just that with flying colors. The platformer comes with the hefty price tag of $3.99, and is worth every penny.

Find out why after the break.

  • Long game – hours of fun first time through, but you will want to play through more than once to collect all the cogs and collectables. This is a fully fledged game.
  • Very polished – XBL Quality. Only had one strange crash happen through the entire game dealing with my Zune music playing.
  • Very fun/interesting gameplay which varies from level to level.
  • Lots of enemy types with different abilities.
  • Secret levels, hidden items.
  • Multiple routes through levels.
  • Challenging enough to keep fun, checkpoints often enough to keep from being tedious.
  • Each level offers fresh new challenges.
  • Nice clean graphics, smooth animations, solid framerate.
  • Soundtrack lacks personality
  • Not an XBL title = no achievements
  • Game repeatedly crashed at end of third world, but only when Zune was running.
  • While there are boss levels, there is only one boss in the entire game. It would have added a lot of personality to have bosses in the boss levels.
While Spy Bot Chronicles is spendy for a non XBL game, it is probably the most complete game I’ve played on WP7, and my favorite to boot. If you’re a fan of side scrolling platformers, this is a must buy.

Be sure to check back later this week for video of gameplay.
